CEO Announces Plans for Community Action Month in May

CEO is celebrating Community Action Month during the month of May. Many events will be occurring throughout various Rensselaer County locations, where CEO staff, volunteers, and participants are joining together with community partners to make a difference in the neighborhoods where we work, live, and play. Here are just some of the places where we are making a difference:

What: Crop Walk to End Hunger
Who: Troy Area United Ministries
CEO Staff/Volunteers
When: Sunday, May 5
Registration: 12:00pm
Walk: 1:00 pm
Where: Troy Area United Ministries, 326 Second Street, Troy, NY 12180

Additional Details: CEO staff are participating in the walk itself and collecting sponsorships. A portion of the proceeds will benefit CEO’s Food Pantry.

What: Wit’s End Support Group 20th Anniversary Reception
Who: Kathy Coons, Commissioner of Mental Health
Kathleen Jimino, County Executive
Katherine Maciol, President of CEO
When: Monday, May 6 at 7:00 pm
Where: JLB Family Resource Center Large Conference Room – 3rd Floor, 2328 Fifth Avenue, Troy, NY 12180

Additional Details: Award will be presented to Kathy Coons. Refreshments will be served. Reception to also celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week.

What: CEO Employees Help at Troy Community Gardens
Who: Housing Services Division and Community Services Division
When: Wednesday, May 8
12:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Where: Community Gardens Farm, Intersection of 261 8th St. and Hutton, Troy

Additional Details: CEO staff to help prepare planting beds alongside Community Garden staff and volunteers.

 

What: Habitat for Humanity / YouthBuild Group Build
Who: CEO Staff
CEO’s YouthBuild Participants
Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers
When: Friday, May 10
Where: Fox Hollow Build Site: intersection of Burden Avenue /Cross Street / Sullivan Street, Troy

Additional Details: CEO volunteer staff members work with YouthBuild participants and Habitat for Humanity volunteers to build a house at “Fox Hollow” build site.

What: Food Pantry Bread Donation
Who: Senator Neil Breslin
Friehofer’s
CEO Food Pantry Staff
When: Thursday, May 23

Where: JLB Family Resource Center, 2328 Fifth Avenue, Troy, NY 12180

Additional Details: Senator Neil Breslin and Friehofer’s will be making a donation of 500 loaves of bread to the Food Pantry.

What: YouthBuild Graduation Ceremony
Who: Local elected officials and community partners
CEO YouthBuild Participants
CEO Staff
When: Tuesday, May 28
1:00 pm
Where: HVCC Bulmer Telecommunications Center, 80 Vandenburgh Avenue, Troy, NY 12180

Additional Details: Current YouthBuild participants graduate from the rigorous program cycle. Traditional graduation ceremony with a guest speaker. Cake and refreshments to follow.

What: Annual Community Action Luncheon
When: Thursday, May 30
11:00 am
Where: Hilton Garden Inn, 235 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY 12180

Additional Details: Participants are recognized for their achievements while working toward self-sufficiency. Community partners and volunteers are recognized for their contributions to the CEO Agency and the local community.
